SHORT LIPIZZANER HISTORY - MORE TO COME
The Lipizzaner is the oldest of the European horse breeds and its documented origins trace back 445 years.
The ancestors of this, the most noble of horses, include the chariot horses of Hittites who are portrayed in the frieze on the Parthenon in Athens, the stallions Aquileia and the Quadriga horses of the Romans.
The Eastern horses of Arabia have also played a vital role as have the Berbers, the Iberian breeds, the Castilians , the Andalusians, the Villanos, the Neapolitans and of course the hardy horses of the Karst.
All of these ancient breeds have contributed in producing the Imperial Horse of Kings and Emperors, named by many as the Horse of the Gods - The Lipizzaner.
.We issue passports for Lipizzaners in the UK in our role as a Lipizzaner Breed Society and Studbook Authority. We also register all pure and part bred Lipizzaner horses from all countries of origin. We have a Register II which is open to Lipizzaners whose ancestry is pure but not traceable back to the originators. There is no present interaction between the two registers . In order to enter Register II a Lipizzaner must have a sire entered in Register I or its European equivalent. If you have a Lipizzaner who is not registered with us, why not ring us for a chat. Details below. We have Register sections for all types including part breds.

ADVISE WITH BEST INTERESTS OF THE LIPIZZANER

1ST
The LNSA of GB the ‘first base call’ for any Lipizzaner registrations, questions and issues.
The LNSA, first established over 40 years ago as The British Lipizzaner Horse Society, was given Official Recognition of its pre-eminent status by the UK Secretary of State, & added its current name to reflect that recognition and better define its role in the UK.
HISTORY
We have a good deal of excellent verified information on the history of the Lipizzaner which will be made freely available upon request. We also have a booklet written by Lyn Moran on the history of the Lipizzaner which is for sale upon request.
Including Gypsy Cob Society passport maintenance & new Identity Passports.
We issue passports for Lipizzaners in the UK in our role as a Lipizzaner Breed Society and Studbook Authority. We also register all pure and part bred Lipizzaner horses from all countries of origin. We can do all necessary updates to out of date passports, effect owner name and address changes, record added details to the passport & anything else required to ensure owners have a legal document which is a requirement by law.
PASSPORT INFORMATION
The passport is a legal document which every owner of every equine must have. It is illegal not to have a passport
for your horse. You risk a substantial fine by not having a passport for your horse or failing to have your passport
updated into your ownership.
New owners by law have one month from purchase to change ownership into their name.
We are a breed society for the Lipizzaner and a Passport Issuing Organisation ( PIO) for all equines not studbook registerable including gypsy cob types.
We issue passports to a high standard to ensure every equine that carries our passport is in a legal
position. We will not issue passports to equines registerable and verified parentage testable for the studbook of a breed society. Our passports are Identity Passports which must not be confused with breed society passports.
Our office has been set up to carry out the correct issuing of passports since 2002 and has the latest, up to date facilities at
it's disposal.
We would like to assure owners of all equines that we take the issuing of correct and legal passports very seriously.
We are happy to answer any query you have.
01570 480090 or email us.
IDENTITY PASSPORTS
We issue Identity Passports for all equines so long as they have not been parentage verified and registered in the studbook of a breed society. If you can prove parentage and wish to have verified studbook entry for your horse, we recommend you contact the
relevant breed society. Our 'other' equine passports, except for pure/ part bred Lipizzaners are Identity Passports. Any lineage information supplied to us is classified as unverified & the horse is shown as 'type'.
We have issued passport documents for all types of equine including donkeys and we maintain passports originally issued by the GYPSY COB SOCIETY.
GYPSY COB SOCIETY PASSPORT MAINTENANCE
As you may have read in the equestrian press, some years ago we took over the management & updating of
passports issued by the Gypsy Cob Society.
If you have a Gypsy Cob passport that requires updating (AND MOST DO) , e-mail us at cilyblaidd@btinternet.com or telephone us on 01570 480090 between 10am & 4pm (office hours Monday to Friday) & we will be pleased to help you. Please state your number clearly & slowly if the answering service takes your call and we will get back to you.
So to recap, we issue new identity passports to horses, ponies, cobs, gypsy cobs, donkeys throughout the UK
so long as they are not eligible for breed society registration.

PLEASE BE AWARE THAT FROM 1ST JANUARY 2016, HORSE PASSPORT LEGISLATION CHANGED.
(this does not apply to passports already issued by GCS or LNSA of GB.)
FROM 1ST JANUARY 2016, VETERINARY SURGEONS HAVE HAD TO COMPLETE A FULL SILHOUETTE ON FORMS WHICH CAN BE OBTAINED FROM THIS SITE OR FROM THE LNSA of GB OFFICE, IF YOU ARE APPLYING FOR A NEW PASSPORT FOR YOUR HORSE, YOU CAN DOWNLOAD THE FORMS available at the bottom of the site OR CONTACT THE OFFICE FOR GUIDANCE. IF YOU ARE IN DOUBT, PLEASE CONTACT US AND WE WILL BE PLEASED TO GUIDE YOU.

If a microchip is found, then we will endeavour to ascertain if the horse had been previously issued with a passport by another PIO.
If we find that it has, then we cannot issue your horse with a passport and you will have to obtain a duplicate
from the original PIO.
EQUINE PASSPORT INFORMATION CENTRE
If you have purchased a horse with or without a passport, we can help.
If you have purchased a horse with a passport from another country, we can assist. It needs to be updated for the UK and your ownership recorded. The purpose of equine passports is traceability. So it is imperative that your imported equine's existence in the UK is recorded.
We have frequently been asked by owners whether the very old type registration certificates will suffice as passports. The answer is NO, they will not. A passport is an entirely different type of document which contains certain pages required by the Government for every equine in the UK. If you have an old style registration document, please contact us and we will guide you through the procedure for obtaining a legal passport. We have also been asked if passports from overseas are valid. In most cases, yes they are, but in other cases they may require verifying.
CHANGE OF OWNERSHIP
It is a legal requirement that your name and address needs to be entered on to the passport and officially stamped. Passports must contain the current owner's name and address and should be sent in for updating. We have a legal requirement to enter certain information on the National Database and that includes current owner's details. You must not enter your name in the passport. This must be carried out by this office when you send it in and your name and address must be stamped in order to be officially approved.
If you own a LNSA of GB registered Lipizzaner/part bred ,there will be a passport available for it. If it is not currently in your possession, It is just a telephone call away. If you own an unregistered Lipizzaner Horse, with or without breeding papers, we can prepare and obtain/issue a passport for him/her. If you scroll down this page you will find a downloadable application form. If you would rather we sent it to you in the post or by e-mail, contact us and we will do so.
If you own a horse eligible for and Identity passport we will be able to provide it. Our passports are high quality documents and contain additional security in the form of a uniquely numbered hologram. The hologram number is entered in printed form in the passport and appears on our records.
Please email us for up to date passport fees and we will send you the latest version.
We have as stated above since 2010 taken over management of Gypsy Cob Society passports. Do contact us by email or telephone us on 01570 480090 and we can discuss your requirements with you. If the answering service comes on immediately, it means we are on the phone. Please leave a short message together with your contact number and we will return your call within 24 hours in the working week. If you do not hear from us in that timeframe, please contact us again as it is possible that your number was not clearly audible. We aim to reply to e-mails within 48 hours in the working week.

OWNERS LEGAL RESPONSIBILITIES REGARDING HORSE PASSPORTS.
All horses and ponies (and other forms of equidae) need to have a passport. Owners of foals need to by law obtain a passport for it on or before 31st December of the year of its birth, or by six months after its birth, whichever is later. Owners of older horses who have yet to apply for a horse passport should do so immediately as you are breaking the law and you could be fined up to £5,000.
It is the responsibility of the horse owner to obtain a passport.
Owners who have not applied for a passport for their horse within the timescales outlined above are committing an offence under the Horse Passports Regulations 2009. You should apply for a passport without delay.
Microchipping of foals and adult horses not previously identified is a mandatory requirement before a passport can be issued.
Please note that if you apply for a passport after the timelines outlined above, your equine will be signed out of the food chain before the passport is issued, irreversibly excluding the equine from the human food chain.
Remember, failure to correctly identify all equines under the new rules could lead to a fine of up to £5000. This applies to equines whatever their status. Even if they are aged and will never leave their field, they still require a passport.
A PASSPORT SHOULD BE READILY AVAILABLE to the authorities & YOU SHOULD ALWAYS HAVE YOUR HORSE'S PASSPORT AVAILABLE - WITH THE FOLLOWING EXCEPTIONS:
• Stabled or on pasture and the passport can be produced without delay.
• Moved temporarily on foot in the vicinity of the holding and the passport can be produced within 3 hours. This includes being ridden or driven.
• Moved on foot between summer and winter grazing.
• Unweaned and accompanied by their dam or foster mare.
• Participation in training or a test at an equestrian competition which requires the equine to leave the event for a limited period of time.
• Moved under emergency conditions. This includes transportation.
Owners or keepers with primary responsibility for care of the horse must ensure any horse they look after is correctly identified
If a passport is not available or the equine's food status is not known to the vet - certain veterinary medicines may not be administered or prescribed.
The ‘keeper' means a person who is not the owner of a horse but is appointed by the owner to have day-to-day charge of that horse. Keepers with primary responsibility for the horse's day-to-day welfare should satisfy themselves that all the horses under their care have been correctly identified before agreeing to keep them. It is an offence to keep a horse without a passport.
CHANGE OF OWNERSHIP (TRANSFER)
Changes of ownership or change of permanent address of owner must be notified to the organisation that has issued the passport. The passport-issuing organisation (PIO) may require that the passport be returned for updating. You must inform the PIO of change of ownership/change of address within 30 days. It is a finable offence not to update your equine's details within the required timescale.
DEATH OF AN EQUINE
Upon the death of the animal you must return the passport to the issuing body within 30 days. We are required by law to invalidate the passport (and, if a microchip was implanted, the microchip number). You may however request that we return it once we have finished with it.
LOST PASSPORTS
If you have lost your passport, please inform the office within 30 days and we will send you the necessary paperwork in order to request a duplicate/replacement
